Family Physician

Dr. Mahnaz Mahmoodi is a family physician with a focused clinical practice in dermatology and extensive experience in dermatology clinical research. She has served as a Sub-Investigator at SimcoDerm Medical & Surgical Dermatology Centre since 2015 and as an Associate Investigator with Probity Medical Research since 2016.

Over the past decade, Dr. Mahmoodi has participated in more than 100 clinical trials and research studies, primarily in inflammatory and immune-mediated dermatologic diseases. Her research experience encompasses a broad range of conditions, including plaque psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, atopic dermatitis, vitiligo, alopecia areata, prurigo nodularis, palmoplantar pustulosis, acne, and chronic hand eczema. Her clinical trial portfolio includes Phase 1/2 through Phase 3 and long-term extension studies, as well as observational and real-world evidence research.

Dr. Mahmoodi completed her medical degree at Ahvaz University of Medical Sciences and subsequently completed Family Medicine residency training at the University of Western Ontario. She further strengthened her dermatology-focused training through a Diploma in Practical Dermatology from the University of Wales in Cardiff, United Kingdom.

In addition to her work at SimcoDerm and PMR, Dr. Mahmoodi has served as a family physician with the Family Medicine Teaching Unit at Southlake Regional Health Centre since 2011. Her earlier medical career also included training and practice in obstetrics and gynecology and an academic appointment as an Assistant Professor at Ahvaz Medical University.

As part of the SimcoDerm research team, Dr. Mahmoodi brings together longitudinal patient care, dermatology-focused clinical experience, and extensive clinical trial expertise. She has worked across numerous investigational programs involving topical therapies, oral small molecules, biologics and other emerging therapeutic approaches for chronic inflammatory skin diseases.
Dr. Mahmoodi maintains current training in ICH Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Health Canada Division 5 requirements for clinical trials involving human subjects, including ICH E6(R3) investigator-site training.

Her combination of community-based clinical practice and extensive research experience strengthens SimcoDerm’s ability to identify appropriate research participants, conduct complex dermatology trials, and provide patients in Barrie and surrounding communities with access to emerging investigational therapies.
